  3. <hi style=afpcap>Manufacturers photograph of a B-17F Fortess on a test flight from the Boeing Aircraft Company at Seattle. Apart from Boeing, the B-17F was constructed by the Douglas Aircraft Company at Long Beach, California, as well as the Lockheed (Vega) facility at Burbank, California. The B-17E saw active duty in Europe from July 1942 when the first example arrived in the United Kingdom.</hi>
